BAUMA
REVIEW
Holistic view of extensive range
Bell Equipment
made a strong impact locally by showcasing
its strides in innovation with the debut of its 60 t B60D ADT.
Following in the footsteps of the company’s flagship, the B50D,
which was coincidentally released for export at Bauma Germany
in 2004, the B60D takes ADT design and innovation into a new
league, opening up opportunities for the company in a domain
that was previously only contested by rigid haulers.
The B60D has full articulation and oscillation steering but dif-
fers from a traditional ADT in that it has two driven axles, giving
it 4x4 capability. With a 60 t payload the company believes it will
be able to move considerably more dirt than a regular ADT, at a
lower cost per tonne than comparative rigid haulers. At the same
time the truck offers much better off-road capability than a rigid
hauler and has the ability to work in worse underfoot conditions
to increase days in production.
The company also displayed its new B50D ejector as well as
the E-series ADT and upgraded Fleetm@tic fleet monitoring sys-
tem, which were very well received at Bauma Germany earlier
The inaugural Bauma Africa exhibi-
tion has been hailed as a success by
Elaine Crewe, CEO of organiser Messe
München International (MMI) South
Africa, and plans for a second show in
2015 have been confirmed. The show
was held at Gallagher Estates from
September 18-21.
Bauma Africa –
a resounding success
W
hen MMI first announced plans
to introduce a new exhibition
for the construction equip-
ment, mining and materials extraction/
processing industries in South Africa,
it was hoped that around 200 exhibi-
tors would take part using 20 000 m

of
this year. Bell also introduced the Bomag MPH 600 soil stabiliser
and asphalt recycler and announced the expansion of its Liebherr
range of equipment in Southern Africa to include three larger
dozers, the Liebherr PR744, PR754 and PR764 models.”

exhibition space. But this turned out to
be a conservative estimate, and the show
expanded to include some 60 000 m

outdoors. More
than 700 exhibitors from 38 countries ex-
hibited at the show, with attendance by
over 15 000 visitors.
Talking to key exhibitors which
included Atlas Copco, Osborn, Sandvik,
Pilot Crushtec and Terex/Finlay, it was
clear that they were extremely happy
with the show. Product groups included
the construction machinery industry;
mining and raw material processing
industry; formwork, component and
service suppliers; and building mate-
rial machinery. There were nine country
pavilions which included Austria, Italy,
Great Britain, Korea, Finland, Germany,
Northern Ireland, Spain and China.
“The popularity of the show was tes-
tament to the growth opportunities in
Africa’s construction market,” Crewe says.
“In South Africa alone, government’s cur-
rent five-year NDP has set aside R800-
billion for construction projects.”
