The entire spectrum from the agricultural sector
was at this year’s show, with equipment gleaming
in the sun, and exhibitors waiting poised with
order books…
Nampo 2013
T
he Nampo Harvest Day, held every year in
Bothaville, Freestate, is home to the biggest
agricultural show in the southern hemisphere
and once again, all the big names were there to
showcase their wares, from harvesters and wood-
chippers, to gensets and trucks.
The air was filled with the tantalising smell of
boerewors and koeksisters, while advertising
blimps, emblazoned with a variety of logos,
bobbed over streams of people arriving by car and
light aircraft. Yet again, Isuzu Trucks SA hosted the
media and flew us in to attend the show, for which
this writer was most grateful, given the traffic that
flooded into the show grounds and the congestion
generally in the carnival atmosphere!
The show draws an ever-increasing number of
visitors and exhibitors each year, and next year will
increase its footprint. The space is already booked
up with a waiting list of optimists mounting in the
wings.
What was noticeable this year, was that the
stands were less ‘high-tech’ and more ‘bushveld’
by design, better suited to the farming community
that supports this incredible show.
None of the truck OEMs that were approached for
comment were launching anything new – some
of which were at Automechanika – but personally,
