Sasol has taken delivery
of four Sundyne LMV311 feed-pump
skids for propylene transfer at the C3 stabilization project under
construction at its Secunda complex.
The four machines are identical small-footprint, integrally
geared-driven centrifugal pumps designed and manufactured
specifically for chemical and petrochemical applications to ISO
13709 and API 610 Edition 10 standards.
After installation, the feed-pump skids will be supported and
serviced by AESPUMP, Sundyne’s newly appointed
channel partner and service provider for its
product range throughout South Africa.
AESPUMP is an independent company with
a focus on the support of petrochemical refin-
eries and mining operations, and the repair
of API 610 pumps. It has a strong presence
in Secunda, with a workshop that incorpo-
rates a recently commissioned test bay, new
machinery and clean-room facilities
for flameproof pump repairs, and a
spray booth and drying chamber for
Belzona protective coatings.
Machines weighing up to ten tons
are accepted for repair.
In addition to Sundyne, AESPUMP’s
Secunda facility has been approved
as an accredited service centre by KSB
Pumps, Hidrostal, Ecochem Pumps, Franklin Electric, Netzsch,
Helico and SS Pumps. The facility is ISO 9001, ISO 29001,
ISO 14001 and OSHAS 18001 accredited, and is equipped to
ensure that repaired machines comply fully with all health and
safety legislation.
It also has MASC (Mining and Surface Certification) and
SANS 60079-01/1 (electric apparatus for explosive gas atmo-
spheres) for flameproofing, including OD 014 and OD 015.
USA-based Sundyne is a leading manufacturer of
centrifugal pumps and compressors for oil and
gas, petrochemical, chemical, power generation
and water processing industries worldwide. The
company has been active in South Africa for 40
years.
A new breed of cables
for earthworks and mining opera-
tions is able to withstand harsh outdoor conditions, as well
as being able to stand up to tough mechanical conditions
while delivering ultra-reliable performance.
Manufactured in Germany by a leading cabling and
related equipment supplier, Helukabel, the range includes
a variety of purpose built cables that have been specially
manufactured for various tasks on the mines, from the mine
face, to the main operation and beyond. Included in the
range are impressive (and technologically advanced) cables
for deep mining purposes, various coatings for process ap-
plications, trailing cables with high abrasion resistance and
a wide variety of others.
According to Helukabel South Africa managing director,
Doug Gunnewegh, some of the latest advances in cables
for mines include extreme torsionally stiff cables. These
are used for reeling medium voltage power supply to heavy
equipment such as crane or large mobile equipment, as
well as excavators in the mining industry. It allows faster
reeling speeds for better production output, while their
purpose-built construction improves reliability and minimiz-
es downtime as a result of breakages or damage.
The cables can operate under tough conditions and
have a number of built-in features that protect them from
damage. Advanced anti-torsional protection is also built
into the cable to lend it unique torsional strength abilities.
The cables are available in nominal operating voltages of
between 3,6 – 20kV.
Another cable range that has been optimized for mine
conditions is the ever-popular trailing cable. These are used
in vertical drum operation under extreme mechanical stress
and on moving cable carriers. They can be used as a rugged
feeder to construction machines, conveyor and transport
systems in any conditions. The trailing cables have nominal
voltages of between 0,6 – 1kV.
“These cables have been optimized for use on mines
and offer high feed out and reel-in speeds for improved pro-
ductivity. Purpose-built construction means that reliability is
unsurpassed to avoid unnecessary downtime due to cable
failure,” says Gunnewegh.
He adds that the company is able to supply a wide range
of solutions for the mine industry. Global expertise also
means that cables and accessories can be tailor made to
suit the exact requirements of individual mines. Helukabel
cables carry quality certifications from all major standards
authorities.
