he Boardwalk Casino, Hotel and Conference Centre Project was
constructed over a period of 18months.The client was Emfuleni
Resorts but the project was managed by Sun International on
their behalf.
The casino extension construction commenced on 4May 2011 and
was completed by 1 December 2011. This extension involved the soft
demolition of the previous conference centre, interior re-design and
construction as well as the extension and refurbishment of the back
of house (services) areas. The refurbishment of the existing casino
and restaurants was completed in phases thereafter with each phase
anded over ahead of the contractual completion date.
The new Hotel, Conference Centre and Spa construction began
on 22 June 2011 and was completed by 14 December 2012, in time
for the official opening. The scope of works included the following:
• A three-storey basement car park with separate link lobbies on
each level for gaining access to the hotel or casino as well as
separate hotel operations areas and delivery and service yard,
• A four-storey 140-room 5-Star hotel including lounge,
restaurant, bar, business centre, boardroom and pool bar,
• A spa with steam room, sauna, jacuzzi and treatment rooms,
• A heated indoor swimming pool and outdoor swimming pool
with sun terrace;
• A gymnasium, and
• A 2 000 m

Conference Centre with separate breakaway/
meeting rooms and convening areas as well as two
separate kitchens.
