A healthy manufacturing sector helps an economy to grow, thereby
raising living standards, aids in job creation, reduces the deficit
through reduced importation and increases local export business.
However, the local manufacturing industry
is facing massive challenges due to
various factors such as cheap imports,
global competition, labour instability
and skills shortages, which threaten
the growth and prosperity of the South
African manufacturing sector.
The Department ofTrade and Indus-
try stated, in January 2013, the further
designation of valves, manual and
pneumatic actuators for local production
and content in the public sector procure-
ment system.
The designation process is a result of government acknowledging
the need for job creation in the manufacturing sector. The DTI is
confident that local production of designated products will help
to stimulate aggregate demand and strengthen support for the
manufacturing sector.
The stipulatedminimum threshold percentage for local production
and content for different types of valves and actuators was indicated
as being 70% and was implemented in March this year.This is seen
as a big boost for local valve manufacturers and presents the op-
portunity for foreign suppliers to set up operations in South Africa,
with emphasis being placed on job creation.

ter of SouthAfrica (VAMCOSA) which represents local manufacturers

The globe valves in

series have been
tried and tested
for use in various
main and auxil-
iary processes for
hygienic appli-
cations. To com-
plete the range of
globe valve bodies, an
additional design has now
also been included. For the valve
ranges provided, a stainless steel
investment cast body is now available
in nominal sizes of DN 15, 20, 25, 40,
50 and 65, with integrally cast ASME
BPE clamp connections and short
ASME BPE length. It can be supplied
with an internal and external surface
