Photoelectric sensor for
conveyor applications
The newly developed photoelectric OI Cube sensor from ifm elec-
tronic is distinguished by long ranges of up to 800 mm for diffuse
types and up to 15 m for retro-reflective types. For diffuse type sen-
sors, the range can be set precisely using the multi-turn potenti-
ometer. Even under harsh industrial conditions the range operates
independent of colour.
The OI sensor is designed for position detection in conveying
where high ranges are required. As a diffuse type, the sensor oper-
ates independently of colour so that objects with different surfaces
can be detected reliably without readjustment. The metallic M30
type housing is extremely robust. Even without additional protec-
tion the sensor withstands impacts and shocks.
A special feature is the switchpoint setting using the multi-turn
potentiometer and a distance scale. The turns and the scale value
are linear to the distance (for example, “1” = 100 mm, “2” = 200 mm
etc); therefore, before connecting the sensor, the switchpoint can
be set and seen from the sensor scale at any time.
According to ifm electronic, these easy-to-use, newly developed
sensors with long ranges guarantee maximum reliability under se-
vere conditions.

Significant energy savings
possible with motor controller
The Integra motor controller has been re-launched nationally under
the Suresense Technology banner which is available locally from
OEN Enterprises. Integra can make significant savings on the run-
ning costs of applications that use AC induction motors.
The Integra motor controller dynamically adjusts power to a mo-
tor as its load changes. It constantly monitors the motor’s load and
calculates the exact amount of power required at any time, reducing
the amount of electricity used, increasing the life-span of motors,
reducing maintenance requirements and reducing the amount of
carbon dioxide produced at the point of generation.
Once the motor is running, Integra constantly monitors the load
on the shaft of the motor and adjusts the electricity consumption in
accordance with the job that it is doing at any point in its duty cycle.
Integra is able to shut motors down when they are not required. The
timed shut off feature automatically turns off motors that have not
been used for a specified period of time.
Integra’s stored energy feature takes full advantage of the kinetic
energy present in fly wheel applications and can decrease run time
of the motor down by as much as 30 % in certain cases. A variety of
stopping methods are also featured on the unit.
