Life-saving earthing devices
Surgetek manufactures all its earthing and short-circuiting devices
locally and each order is designed for individual customer require-
ments. The devices ensure the safety of personnel when working on
electrical systems.
The earthing and short-circuiting devices protect personnel from
the dangers which may occur due to induced voltages, atmospheric
surges or accidental reconnection of the supply voltage while work-
ing on low, medium and high voltage electrical systems. The devic-
es are rated in accordance with SANS 1934 to withstand full system
fault current conditions for the total duration of the fault.
The devices are designed for a wide range of applications, in-
cluding overhead lines, switchgear systems and LV distribution sys-
tems. Tested to simulate the worst possible conditions, the devices
comply with the electrical, mechanical and humidity penetration
requirements of SANS 61230.
Single-pole and three-pole earthing and short-circuiting devices,
tubular busbar clamps, phase clamps, earth clamps, fixed phase
and earth connection points and various accessories provide the
perfect solution to all earthing and short circuiting requirements,
says Surgetek.
According to the company, earthing and short-circuiting equip-
ment should be handled with great care and be thoroughly inspect-
ed before each application to ensure operational safety.

Tyre protection sealant
designed for heavy equipment
BMG Automotive has extended its range of quality branded com-
ponents to now include an environmentally-friendly tyre protection
sealant, designed for the commercial trucking, mining and con-
struction industries.
The BEST tyre protection sealant is a thixotropic and colloidal
resin, containing micro fibres and recycled rubber crumb materials,
with cooling agents and rust inhibitors that protect all metal parts.
“BEST, which is non-toxic and water soluble, is injected into the
tyre through the valve, without the need to dismantle the wheel
from the machine or the tyre from the rim,” says John Black, GM of
BMG Automotive. “In the event of a puncture, this sealant automati-
cally creates patches and plugs, sealing holes caused by foreign
objects. This material also eliminates leakage from hidden rubber
pores, seals valve leakages and prevents air pressure leakage from
the rim and O-ring.
“This sealant efficiently seals around objects embedded in the tyre
up to 50 mm, prohibits internal rubber separation and also reduces
overheating of the rubber mass and the metal armour of the casing.”
