Victaulic, which claims to be the world leader
in mechanical pipe joining systems, has in-
troduced Vic-Press, a press system that joins
pipe in a matter of seconds. Vic-Press, the
industry’s first ANSI Schedule 10S pipe sized
press-to-connect system designed for off-
the-shelf ASTM A-312 Schedule 10S stain-
less steel pipe, is an industrial-grade solution
for quickly and reliably joining small-diameter
piping systems.
Every Vic-Press product is supplied pre-lu-
bricated in a closed bag to maintain integrity
throughout shipping and storage, ensuring
seals are clean right up until installation.
“Vic-Press is an innovative product of-
fering a small-diameter solution for off-the-
shelf stainless steel Schedule 10S pipe,”
says Barry Van Jaarsveld, Victaulic Regional
Manager South Africa. “Thanks to continued
investment in research and development,
customers in the mining, power and indus-
trial markets can now rely on Victaulic as a
single-source provider for all stainless steel
pipe joining needs from 15 to 600 mm.”
Vic-Press is said to offer increased strength
and durability with improved flow character-
istics compared to light-wall tube systems
Weir Minerals Africa is currently delivering a
pump order for a greenfields mineral sands
plant in West Africa that includes the supply
of two of the largest mill discharge pumps
in the company’s range – its 750 mm MCR
pumps, each weighing in at 45 tons.
Weir Minerals Africa is one of the few man-
ufacturers of mill discharge pumps of this size
and the components necessary to assemble
the two pumps were sourced from its opera-
tion in Chile and shipped to one of its South
African sites, where a trial assembly was suc-
cessfully conducted. Owing to their size, the
two Warman MCR pumps will be shipped via
Port Elizabeth to Dakar.
The pump order, comprising more than 60
units, follows in the wake of two earlier orders
for the same project that included rubber
dredging hoses and rubber linings for chutes
and tanks.
The latest order for pumps includes
Warman
®
AH units, from 12/10 down to 1,5/1.
Warman AH pumps are among Weir Miner-
als Africa’s most popular pump ranges and
their footprint is steadily increasing on the
African continent. Warman L Series medium
duty water and transfer pumps, incorporating
the same design points as the AH pump, but
which are fitted with higher efficiency impel-
lers, have also been specified for this mineral
sands project.
Following a successful competitive and
technically sound bid, the order was placed
with Weir Minerals Africa by an Australian-
based project house in April 2012 and is
being delivered in consignments in time for
plant commissioning in the third quarter of

Africa service technicians, as well as techni-
cians operating out of the company’s Ghana
office, will provide commissioning support,
pump maintenance training for the mine’s
plant personnel and after sales back-up.
Rui Gomes, Product Manager: Slurry
Pumps at Weir Minerals Africa, says many
of the pumps in this order are being supplied
with mechanical seals, which is quite uncom-
mon in the African slurry market, although
well accepted in the rest of the world.

and safer, more efficient pipe assembly than
welding, threading and flanging.
In addition, a patent-pending press detec-
tion technology enables installers to con-
firm any unpressed joints as the system is
filled. The Vic-Press system also reportedly
requires 70 per cent fewer man-hours than
welding to install, and significantly reduces
rework. No flame or arc is required reducing
risk to workers and surroundings.
