Innovative filtration
solution
B&E International has one of the country’s
largest fleets of Metso crushers, and when
looking to save costs on its filtration sys-
tems, the company contracted Hytec Fluid
Technologies (HFT), a Hytec Group company,
to evaluate, design and supply an alterna-
tive that could save a massive 30% on their
yearly filtration costs – without compromis-
ing performance.
The result was a solution made up of 20%
locally-manufactured filters, and filters from
HFT’s latest brand, Baldwin Filters, which
make up the remaining 80% of the company’s
annual needs. Baldwin Filters’ patent-pend-
ing ProTura™ nanofiber technology, when
compared to other brands, providing higher
efficiency, greater capacity, extended service
life and lower restrictions, which helps to pro-
long engine life.
“ The extended filter lifespan and
improved uptime are the major benefits to
our customer, as they are able to save by
not having to replace the crushers’ filters as
often,” says Carl Elford, divisional manager at
HFT.“As part of the total filtration solution, we
have also been contracted to conduct regu-
lar inspections on all of B&E International’s
equipment throughout South Africa, which
helps us to ensure maximising uptime and
constant stock availability of the right air, oil
and fuel filtration solutions.”
B&E International is part of the Raubex
Group, which is one of South Africa’s larg-
est crushing companies, and a leader
in road infrastructure construction and
rehabilitation.
High Power Equipment (HPE) Africa suc-
cessfully displayed the capabilities of the
McCloskey C38 recirculating cone crusher
tomore than 60 industry professionals and
trade media representatives, following a
recent interactive open day hosted by the
company at a quarry site in Gauteng.
HPE Africa was named as the sole
Southern African distributor for Canada/
Ireland-based McCloskey International – a
global leader in the manufacture of crush-
ing, screening and handling equipment –
in January 2013, and has since sold a total
of 12 McCloskey machines to the local
quarrying industry, including: cone crush-
ers, vibrating screens and jaw crushers.

Alan Straw points out that the McCloskey
C38 recirculating cone crusher was
selected as the display model of choice,
due to its durability and adaptability to
the harsh African climate and terrain.“The
C38 recirculating cone crusher combines
the productivity of a 38” cone with the
versatility of a full screening and recircu-
lating system, thereby allowing operators
to produce a crushed and screened final
product with one single machine.”
Straw says that the McCloskey C38
recirculating cone crusher was well
received by guests during the demon-
stration, due to the fact that it displayed
its capabilities as the ideal portable sec-
ondary crushing solution for operators
requiring production rates up to 300
tph. “The McCloskey C38 recirculating
cone crusher is an entry level cone with
high-spec features, including; an anti-
spin system, load and material level
monitoring, a fully hydraulic push but-
ton and fully hydraulic relief system. This
machine proved first hand at HPE Africa’s
McCloskey open day that its competitive
pricing does not compromise on power or
quality in any way whatsoever.”
According to Straw, the entire
McCloskey International range is ideally
suited to the African market, due to the
fact that it is user-friendly and rugged.
“McCloskey International was established
in Canada where machines are expected
to withstand extreme temperatures in
vastly remote areas. As a result, they have
been designed to be reliable, operator-
friendly and easy to maintain. These are
the features that African-based operations
will be looking for in their machinery.”
Although the McCloskey International
range has only been available to the local
market through HPE Africa for a matter
of months, the future outlook for both
companies looks positive. “In addition to
the C38 recirculating cone crusher, HPE
Africa has already imported a number of
feed screens, hopper feed screens and jaw
crushers for customers located nation-
wide and in Africa,” he says.
