LEGRAND, specialists in electrical products
and systems, has extended its range of time
switches, with the launch of a new generation
of digital time switches for industrial, commer-
cial and domestic environments.
“This new generation
of digital time switches
is designed for precise
automation in various
applications, including
heating and cool-
ing control,” says Luk
Ivens, general man-
ager, Legrand SA. “For
example, digital time
switches are ideal for
controlling air condi-
tioning systems and are
also designed to work
with thermostats, pressure switches or humidity
sensors.
“These energy efficient time switches are
user-friendly, reliable and easy to programme
and read – even for a non-technical person.
The functional programming facility ensures
optimum safety, performance and reliability, as
well as enhanced aesthetics.”
The programmable time switches, with digital
display, switch an electric circuit – for lighting
or heating – on or off at selected times during a
pre-programmed time period.
Important features of these new environmen-
tally-friendly time switches are a changeable
battery and special adaptation for energy sav-
ing lamps. Once the date and time have been
set, no adjustment is necessary.
The new design and graphics on the display
of these units offer improved visibility. A termi-
nal block with high torque enhances safety of
the system.
Legrand’s digital DIN rail mounting time
switches with multiple functions and pro-
grammes for precise control and optimum flex-
ibility have a unique double display, showing at
a glance, the on and off actions, as well as the
corresponding days.
Additional features include a manual or
automatic override ‘on/off’ facility, as well as a
running reserve of six years.
This flexible range encompasses time
switches with a daily or weekly programme
for standard or multiple functions, as well as
special function time switches with expanded
offset programming for astronomical functions.
There are also time switches with an annual
programme for multiple functions.
Standard units, with a daily or weekly pro-
gramme, have a clock with a six-year working
reserve and a precision of 1 second a day. These
time switches have an automatic summer/
winter changeover and are compatible with
alternative energy systems, including photovol-
taic panels.
Time switches for multiple functions have a
daily or weekly programme facility, in 15 lan-
guages. This programme consists of an on and
off time facility, with assignment to certain days.
There is also the option to suspend the pro-
gramme for a specific period, with the instruc-
tion to start up again on a certain date.
The minimum programme setting for this
series is one second, with a high precision clock
of approximately 0,1 second per day. This range
is particularly well suited to irregular cycles in
security and industrial installations.
Digital time switches with multi functions
and an annual programme have a high preci-
sion clock of about 0,2 seconds per day. These
flexible units offer about 28 programmes per
channel for weekly, annual, astronomical and
exceptional programmes.
Only one data key is necessary to create, save,
transfer and store programme settings made
directly on these new multifunction and multi-
programme time switches.

Deebar Mining and Industrial Supplies
has expanded its Cape Town branch. The
well-established switchgear and automa-
tion company now offers customers easier
access to a ‘one point of contact’ for all
their electrical needs. Gareth Horton, who
has been appointed as manager of the
projects division, says, “Now we will pro-
actively bring our technical capabilities,
problem-solving experience and project
solutions directly to our clients.” Recent
product introductions into the Cape Town
market include IMO’s new and improved
contactor range, MCBs up to 125A, VHX
Drives, a complete range of automation
products and Fortress Interlocks. Fortress
products are handled by Lee Dalton in the
Western Cape.
