THE rising cost of energy is
forcing businesses and home
owners to come upwithways
to reduce energy consump-
tion, says Sara Ross, corporate
marketingmanager at ACDC
Dynamics. “One of the easiest
ways to accomplish energy
saving is by having the lights on
in different areas of your build-
ing only when you actually
need themon. This is, however,
difficult to accomplish in areas
such as bathrooms, passages,
stairwells andmeeting rooms.
ACDC Dynamics offers a
variety of solutions that enable
easy, aesthetically pleasing,
automatic control of lighting in
these areas,”she says.
“Staircase timers such as our
ASM-01/U or ASH-01/U are the
perfect solution for long pas-
sages and stairwells. The timer
is activated by a push button
that can be positioned at either
end of a passage or on the
landings of a stairwell. When
the button is pushed the lights
are switched on for a time that

Saving energy with lighting automation
PHAROX prides itself in providing the best LED
technology with a focus on good quality lighting,
energy efficiency and sustainability says Francois
vanTonder, managing director at NTL Lemnis.
“The Pharox range has grown substantially
over the past year and, therefore, many more
LED lighting promotion to celebrate energy efficiency
products have beenmade available to consum-
ers. This expansionmeans that Pharox products
can now not only be used in the hospitality,
housing, mining, public lighting and poultry
farming sectors, but also in the retail market and
for industrial applications,”he says.
“We pride ourselves on our expanding product
range and it is also extremely gratifying that by
manufacturing good quality lights that last a very
long time, our customers can save energy and
contribute to a sustainable future in South Africa.”
NTL Lemnis Africa, the manufacturer of the
Pharox Range, is currently running a promotionon
specific productsmainly for thehospitality industry,
the retail sector, poultry farms andpublic lighting.

can be adjusted according to
the timeframes needed to clear
the area. That way the lights are
only on when required.
“Another solution that ACDC
Dynamics provides is our range
of occupancy sensors. These
sensors make use of either
microwave or infrared technol-
ogy to sense whether an area is
occupied or not and then switch
the lights on or off as required.
On accessing these spaces, the
lights will be turned on for the
length of time required and
automatically switch offwhen
the space is vacant.
“The advantage of micro-
wave sensors like our JQ-25
and ECOMAT are that they are
not limited by line of sight and
can detect movement through
objects,”says Ross, adding that
means that the sensor can be
mounted inside a ceiling cavity
or inside a light fitting, behind
the diffuser.
“This is useful in areas where
the presence of a surface-
mounted sensor would detract
from the décor. Microwave
sensors are also very sensitive
tomovement andwill pick up
small movements.”
Ross explains that infrared oc-
cupancy sensors are affordable
and are available in a variety of
designs tomeet any require-
ment. “The range includes small
ceilingmount sensors, a 4x2
sensor that will replace a normal
light switch, outdoor weather-
proof sensors and even a 12V dc
sensor that can be used in solar
lighting applications.”
Ross describes some of the
outstanding features of these
products:
•
The OS-465 has the ability to
connect two separate sen-
sors to a common switching
box for use in areas where
one sensor will not cover the
entire area.
•
The OS-465 and OS-462
have the ability to switch
two loads, which is especial-
ly useful inbathroomswhere
they can be used to switch
both the lighting and the ex-
traction fans on and off.
•
The sensors include a day-
light switching function to
make sure that the lights are
not switched on when the
ambient light level is high
enough for good visibility.
•
Most of the range includes
adjustment for the sensitiv-
ity, the time that the lights
will remain on and the lux
level for the daylight switch-
ing function.

tion using the latest technolo-
gy,”says Mark Stocks of Denver
Technical Products.
With up to 36 hours of day-
light quality and shadow-free
light, it is a superb light source
with excellent battery life, and
delivers the equivalent to 500W
halogen – 9 500 lm (Lumens).
T
he LED Aurora floodlight is
eco-friendly with up to 3 000kg
annual CO² saving and it is
CarbonTrust Approved. It can
be rapidly recharged from any
mains supply (110 - 230V ac)
or 12V vehicle. The floodlight is
constructed from a waterproof
(IP68) standard with a durable
high-grade pressure die-cast
aluminium casing and a poly-
carbonate lens. It is versatile
and has a height extender,
which is available for raised
operations
.
This low voltage LED flood-
light has no trailing cables so it
can be used in confined spaces
Low batter voltage is indi-
cated by visual and audible
warnings and it comes with an
electronic intelligent charger
