K
napen Trailers is celebrating its 30
th
anniversary this year.
In 1984 Piet Knapen took over the company, ‘Knapen’s
wagenbouw’, from his father and Knapen Trailers was born. At
that time Knapen Trailers built Europe’s first moving-floor trailer and
it weighed 14 tonnes as there were no aluminium structures then.
In 1985, Knapen Trailers built Europe’s first aluminium moving-
floor trailer. In 1988, Knapen Trailers invented a well-known self-
supporting construction that is still found in every moving-floor
trailer to this day. In this construction the chassis beams stop at the
support legs and the front part is supported by the side walls: an
invention that saves a lot of weight. Since that time the inventions
have come thick and fast. From side-door trailers to hydraulic
tailgates and from chopper units to grain funnels: all are inventions
from Knapen Trailers’ drawing board. The standard structure and the
construction have also been optimised down to the last detail over
the past thirty years. Every part of the trailer – be it large or small –
has been designed on the basis of thirty years’ practical experience.
Moreover, as a result of Knapen Trailers’ speciality, exclusively in
moving-floor trailers, everybody at the company focuses completely
on this type of trailer.
