ConstructionWorld’s
prestigious Best Projects Awards was held for the 12
th
time on 29 October at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf
Club in Linksfield, Johannesburg. Sixty one entries competed in the
seven categories of the awards. The awards eveningwas attended by
230 guests, some of whom commented that these awards, the only
in South Africa that reward excellence across the entire construction
industry, are increasingly prestigious and popular.

sional bodies: Chartered Institute of Building
Africa (Rob Newberry), Master Builders of
South Africa (Naudé Klopper) and Consulting

were previous presidents of these bodies or
of their predecessors).

The judging
Judging took place of 17 October.The judges
scored entries based on the criteria for each
category and these scores were adjusted on a
weighted average basis to ensure equitability
across all entries.
Criteria
Entries were judged according to the criteria
for each of the categories as set out in the
call for entries. Categories A1, A2, A3, B, C, D
and E shared the same criteria which were:
(i) Construction innovation technology,
(ii) corporate social investment, (iii) design
innovation, (iv) environmental impact
consideration, (v) health and safety, (vi)
quantifiable time, cost and quality, and
(vii) risk management.
Category B had four judging criteria:
(i) construction innovation technology,
(ii) corporate social investment, (iii) environ-
mental impact consideration, and (iv) health
and safety.
