As the best vertically integrated construction materials supplier in the cementitious
materials industry, AfriSam is capable to offer its customers solutions to their specific
construction material requirements.
AfriSam is working closely with CLF to supply steel fibre reinforced concrete,
containing additives to provide for shrinkage compensation. This allows much
bigger panels to be cast, virtually eliminating the need for joints.
For Transnet’s City Deep container terminal, AfriSam designed a solution to meet the specific
requirements of this project. The concrete used had a higher than normal fly ash content to provide
better workability, affording the customer more time to cut joints, as it has a slower strength gain.
AfriSam has the largest installed read-
ymix concrete capacity in Gauteng,
allowing for very fast track projects.
In the Sandton/Midrand/Centurion
corridor the company’s capacity can
accommodate 4 000 m³ in a day.
Through ongoing research AfriSam has modified its cement chemistry and
use carefully selected admixtures to produce cements and concretes with
cement clinker content as low as 25%.
