CONSTRUCTION WORLD

THE SAFETY FACTOR IS IMPORTANT
at big
construction sites. The topic of occupational
safety is also gaining in importance. So these
problems are alsoplaying a crucial role during
the construction of a wastewater treatment
plant, intended to operate with a capacity
of 11 000 litres per second in addition to an
already existing plant. With the project split
up into eight construction phases, the first
sector alone, for concreting the 65 centime-
tre thick floor, required shoring of 51 metres
length and 45 metres width, into which the
72 floor supports also had to be integrated.
The requirements for this load-bearing sup-
port were therefore quickly defined: fast, safe,
flexible – and economical.
Due to the tight schedules and heavy
demands made on safety, the experts in
charge decided to use Layher’s newAllround
ShoringTG60 for the first time. High-strength
shoring frames in combinationwith standard
parts from the proven Allround equipment
range gave the construction company crucial
advantages. On the one hand, their rapid
assembly considerably improved efficiency
at construction sites. This was assured by the
reduced number of components in the pre-
fabricated shoring frame when compared to
individual parts, the low component weight
of no more than 18 kilogrammes, bolt-free
wedge-head connectors, and optimum use
of material thanks to variable bay lengths.
To match the actual loading situation and
the configuration dimension of the form-
work supports, the ground plan of the shor-
ing towers could in this way be extended
to 1,09 m x 2,07 m, which – unlike square-
shaped variants – not only saved onmaterial

A major project efficiently handled
Tight schedules, complex building geometry and tough demands on
occupational safety: assembling a shoring structure of more than 2 000
square metres for building a wastewater treatment plant posed big
challenges to the people in charge. The ideal solution was the new
Allround Shoring TG 60 from Layher. Faster, more flexible and safer
to assemble, this well thought-out system ensures highly efficient
shoring construction.
For more than 60 years now, Layher has been the undisputed pioneer for top-class scaffolding systems‘made
in Germany’. With its ideas, this future-looking and highly innovative company has continually been giving
vital new impulses to scaffolding construction and profoundly influenced developments: SpeedyScaf, as the
first frame scaffolding, revolutionised façade scaffolding construction.
With its bolt-freewedge head connection technology, Allround Scaffolding has become established all over
theworld as a synonym for modular scaffolding. Layher has presented a further milestone at this year’s bauma:
Allround Lightweight – the newdimension of scaffolding. But Layher not onlymeans high-quality scaffolding,
protective and event systems, rolling towers and ladders: it is also a dependable partner to customers from
scaffolding, crafts, construction, industry and the events business when it comes to outstanding services. Every
day, more than 1 500 highly qualified andmotivated employees are creating for customers 'more possibilities'–
at the highly automated headquarters in Gueglingen-Eibensbach or at the sales subsidiaries in more than 30
countries all over the world.
and assembly time, but also took into account
the positions of the 72 floor supports.
A further advantage of Allround Shoring
TG60 is its compatibilitywith the comprehen-
sive component range of the Allround sys-
tem.Whether it is used for attachingworking
levels using Allround brackets, or for building
Allround stairway towers as accesses, every
requirement on site can be implemented
economically using the Allround construc-
tion kit. The shoring structure of more than
2 000m
2
was braced simply by usingAllround
ledgers and diagonal braces – by wedge-
head connector; without additional connec-
tions based on tubes and couplers. The use
of standardAllroundScaffolding components
also saved a time while measuring the
shoring towers. After assembly of a single
tower, the distance to the next tower resulted
automatically from positioning of Allround
ledgers on the ground at right angles to the
system dimension.
The necessary geometry adjustments
were achieved economically. Since there
was a change in the support beam direction
at the edge area of the shoring structure,
individual Allround standards were used as
supports – erecting of further shoring towers
was not needed. A sub-structure made of
Allround equipment ensured problem-free
height adjustment in the area of a balustrade.
Regarding height, Allround Shoring TG 60
performed convincingly during assembly
of the approximately 10 metre high shoring
towers. The safe assembly sequence for All-
round Shoring TG 60 automatically provides
scaffolding erectors with all-round side
protection, even without additional compo-
nents. This allows valid safety regulations to
bemet in full for the first time during shoring
construction.The clients were delightedwith
this solution, which is optimal in both its tech-
nical and economic aspects. Consequently,
construction of the sewage treatment plant
is proceeding ahead of schedule.
