An expanded range of Evak sewage
and drainage pumps is generating
an immense amount of interest
in the local market. In fact Corde Africa,
which is importing these products, reports
that within two weeks of receiving the
latest shipment of pumps from this range,
more than a third had already been sold.
“Since we launched the expanded
range of Evak pumps, the interest these
products has generated in the local market
by word of mouth has been tremendous,
verifying our conviction that we have
brought something new and exciting
to the market,” Errol Cornelius of Corde
Africa says.
“The sewage industry in South Africa
is a huge and growing market and we
intend to become a significant player
in this arena. We believe the return on
investment offered by this extended
range of drainage, sewage and contractor
pumps will help position us to achieve
this objective.”
At the same time Corde Africa has
introduced a second new product offering
— a range of Corde borehole motors
manufactured by international motor
producer Sumoto in Italy. The 6” OYC
series motor is cooled using a special
food grade lubricant and incorporates
a plug in lead cable for ease of installation
and maintenance, while the 4" 4WP series
features a new size stator core and a water-
tight cable connector. Corde Africa also

industry, which have a number of
technical advantages over the tradi-
tional galvanised iron borehole piping
including being lightweight, easy to
transport and corrosion resistant.
Edenvale-based Corde Africa is
owned and operated by Errol Cornelius
and Debby McLellan, whose experi-
ence, spanning more than 35 years in
the pump industry, underpins the
company’s product line-up. Corde Africa
differentiates itself in the market by a
high level of service, flexibility and rapid
response times.

Problems associated with concrete industrial floors on the
ground remain the subject of most of the calls for assistance
received by The Concrete Institute.
The volume of calls for help is not surprising as it is not generally
realised that design and detailing, as well as sound construction
practice, are aspects of concrete flooring that require specific training.
The Concrete Institute’s School of Concrete Technology’s training
on Concrete Industrial Floors aims to help consulting engineers and
contractors overcome these problems. The syllabus is extensive and
covers, for example, thickness, design, joints, reinforcement, construc-
tion and surface finishing. The training on construction covers the
selection of materials, construction of the sub-grade and sub-base,
concrete requirements, as well as construction and finishing of the
floor surface.
Flooring training courses are presented by The Concrete Institute
regularly. For the rest of this year, the ‘Concrete Industrial Floors on
the Ground’ one-day course will be held on 29 May in Durban, 1 July
in Cape Town and 12 September in Midrand. Arrangements for other
special flooring courses can also be discussed with the School.
The industrial floors training course has full Engineering Council of
S.A. accreditation, with one full Continuing Professional Development
(CPD) credit awarded for attendance.
The course is gaining in popularity as more and more designers,
