RuggedCom - RX1500
R
uggedCom’s RX15xx family is a range of Layer 2 and 3 switching
devices, ideally suited for the utility, industrial, military and ITS
industries. Boasting a modular, field replaceable platform the RX15xx
family allows customers to select the customised unit that will work
to their requirements, whilst allowing quick and easy expansion or
changing of modules.
A large variety of available modules, including various LAN and
WAN ports as well as SERIAL modules, means that the unit can be
customised to fit almost any application.
Dual power supplies allow for an increased level of hardware re-
dundancy, with the option to run the supplies in either a load-sharing
or a failover configuration (software selectable). The unit meets or
exceeds relevant standards and has compliance with IEC61850-3.
RuggedCom’s ZPL (Zero Packet Loss) compliance means that the unit
is perfectly suited for high EMI environments such as substations or
power plants. Along with a high operating temperature range (-40°C
to +85°C) and the option for conformal coating, this hardware is suited
for most harsh environments.
The unit can be ordered as either a standard layer 2 switch, or as
a layer 3 switch. The layer 2 option will provide a high port density
switch that can handle a high amount of traffic, without any routing
or firewall options. If the routing functionality is required the layer 3
option will provide.
Ordering a unit as layer 3 will provide advanced firewall and router
functionality, as well as dynamic routing options such as BGP and
RIP. A third option, layer 3 security edition, provides IPSec and VPN
functionality over and above the functionality offered by a standard
layer 3 device.
RuggedAPE
The RuggedAPE (Application Processing Engine) is an industrial PC
module that can be inserted into any of the RX15xx family of devices.
This module can be used to provide computing power at a remote site
without the need for an additional server. From substation gateway,
remote analytics and firewall to monitoring and control applications
(Such as data collection or network security with NERC CIP standard
compliance), the APE provides the computing power and reliability
for mission critical applications.
The RX1500 APE is designed to the RuggedRated™ specification,
which provides a high level of immunity to electromagnetic inter-
ference (EMI) and electrical surges. With an operating temperature
range of -40° to +70°C, the APE can operate in harsh environments.
Benefits and Features
• Embedded design allows direct access to the RX1500 line module
interfaces reducing the inventory of cables, devices and ports to
manage
• Modular design for easy deployment and reduced maintenance
• Utility grade specifications for unmatched reliability and reduced
outages
• Rack mount and DIN rail form factors available to fit specific ap-
plication requirements
• Windows Embedded and most Linux distributions are supported
