In April 2018, XCMG launched its XE7000 mining excavator with N operating weight of 700 t. It is said to be largest excavator in China, which has made China the top four supplier of 700 t excavators in the world, behind Germany, Japan and the United States.

XCMGs 700 t excavator proves its worth in coal mining

The XE7000 is powered by two ABB electrical motors with a maximum power output of 3 400 hp. The operation weight it is 700 t, which is equivalent to 500 pick-up trucks. The length of the machine is 23,5 m, equivalent to an adult blue whale. The XE7000 is equipped with a 34 m³ bucket and each full bucket can hold more than 50 t coal. The XE7000 is ideally suited for loading of 240 t to 300 t rigid dump trucks in open pit mines.

XE7000 is an innovative product with more 52 patents, such as dual power coupling control system, intelligent monitor for high pressure, automatic fault diagnosis, modular dual power hydraulic driving system and self-oil refilling for track tensioner.

The XE7000 has been well received in the mining sector. A case in point is the unit running at a coal mine in Mongolia. The machine has accumulated more than 5 000 hours, working three 8-hour shifts a day, excavating and loading more 30 000 t of coal during each shift. The machine is said to offer high efficiency and productivity, thus reducing cost of operation significantly.

Operations manager at the mine, Mr Zhang, comments: “I am honoured to be the first owner of the biggest excavator in China. XCMG is our strategic supplier and we have established a very good relationship with the manufacturer. When it was procurement time, we had two choices, either to have 200 t excavators paired with 130 t rigid trucks or the 700 t excavator working with 300 t rigid dump trucks. For increased productivity, we chose the 700 t excavator, and it has proven to be the right choice. It has lifted our productivity significantly.”

“The machine has so far clocked 5 000 hours without any breakdown. It is mainly used for coal excavation and truck loading. The XCMG service team is offering 24/7 on-field service and have stocked sufficient stockholding of wear and critical parts in our warehouse. We just pay, on a monthly basis, for the parts consumed.”
