Etex South Africa is ecstatic to be celebrating 10 years of zero LTI accidents at its Roodekop plasterboard plant in Germiston. An LTI refers to the number of days an employee is absent from work due to an injury sustained on the job. It is a measure of a company’s past safety performance.

Etex South Africa Building Systems (Pty) Ltd is a subsidiary of the Etex Group, a global leader in lightweight construction solutions. With over a century of expertise, Etex operates in 45 countries and manages more than 160 facilities worldwide.
The company rebranded from Marley Building Systems to Etex South Africa in 2020, following strategic alignment with the evolving needs of customers after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Etex South Africa is a growing business with two flagship brands: Promat, providing advanced fire protection solutions, and Siniat, offering high-quality plasterboard and steel systems. As a leading construction materials manufacturer, Etex South Africa is deeply commitment to safety across all its operations. The company’s head office is located in Roodekop, Germiston, which also houses two state-of-the-art manufacturing plants producing high-quality gypsum boards and steel solutions, complemented by a distribution centre in Cape Town. This milestone adds to the number of achievements of the organisation, following the steel plant division in Berry Road in Germiston which also reached its 10-year zero LTI accidents record in 2024.
According to Ruben Roach, Etex South Africa General Manager, “Our 10-year LTI-free record is a testament to our unwavering commitment to building and sustaining a strong safety culture at Etex. This achievement would not have been possible without the dedication of our employees, whose collective efforts ensure that safety remains a priority in everything we do. From wearing the correct PPE to actively participating in safety training, collaborating and supporting one another, fostering a strong safety culture.”
“We are proud to celebrate this remarkable achievement. A decade without a single LTI is no small feat - it reflects true safety excellence,” added Roach.
To celebrate this day, the organisation has a day filled with several activities:
- Recognition and awards: A formal address to staff, acknowledging and rewarding their dedication and commitment to maintaining our outstanding safety record.
- Employee Wellbeing: A nutritional talk led by our on-site nurse, who also supports employees with their medical needs to ensure they remain fit and healthy for their roles.
- Health and Fitness: A fun, energizing aerobics session in partnership with Discovery Health for all employees to enjoy.
Etex SA is very intentional about prioritising the safety of its employees, ensuring they return home to their families every day. While delivering high-quality lightweight construction solutions that are safe, we ensure the safety of our customers too. In the words of Robert Collier, success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out, and Etex SA is proof of that.
