Fibertex Nonwovens has reinforced its long-standing partnership with East Africa’s Terrain Plant Ltd, through a technical collaboration initiative, by recently hosting Terrain Plant’s Civil Engineer, Peter Kasumba, at its headquarters and manufacturing facility in Aalborg, Denmark.
The visit to Denmark forms part of an ongoing commitment to developing regional expertise in geosynthetics and enhancing knowledge of the expanding Fibertex product portfolio in East Africa.
Terrain Plant has been the official distributor of the extensive range of Fibertex Nonwovens woven and nonwoven geosynthetic materials across Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda and South Sudan since 2018. Through this partnership, the Terrain Plant team provides specialist support to multiple sectors, including infrastructure development, civil engineering and oil-related projects. This partnership ensures direct access to high-quality geosynthetic products via Terrain Plant’s regional branch network, improving supply chain efficiency and technical support capabilities in these markets.
“The week-long visit was structured to further strengthen technical understanding of product design, specification and testing standards and to offer insight into the technically advanced Fibertex Nonwovens global manufacturing capabilities,” explains Mikael Møller, Fibertex Nonwovens. “Particular emphasis was placed on geotextile technologies and the performance characteristics of materials required for demanding environments in Africa.
“During Peter’s visit we showcased key products within the Fibertex portfolio - including Formtex Controlled Permeability Formwork (CPF) liners, designed for concrete surface enhancement in diverse applications and AM-2 flexible needlepunched nonwoven paving fabric a robust product, specifically developed by Fibertex for tough road engineering conditions in Africa. We also focused on our highly-efficient acoustic solutions, including E-Flow air filtration media.
“A highlight was the introduction of our newly-launched EnviTex Oil. This innovative product is a water-permeable, long-lasting and maintenance-free geotextile, which provides systematic biodegradation of hydrocarbon pollution in the soil and acts as a highly-efficient eco-friendly buffer storage in case of spills or accidents.
“Product training was supported by demonstrations of advanced needle-punching and production processes at the Aalborg facility.”
Feedback from Peter Kasumba after his visit is positive. “This exchange enabled me to gain practical knowledge of Fibertex Nowovens innovative product design and quality assurance processes, which are highly respected all over the world, and are critical in Africa where we have challenging conditions. Seeing the production technologies first-hand provided context to the durability and performance that Fibertex products are known for.”
Fibertex Nonwovens, with a strong presence in southern Africa, is the continent’s largest manufacturer of UV-stabilised, virgin polypropylene nonwoven geotextiles. These products are engineered for long-term durability, with service life exceeding 100 years under the latest European standards. The company’s manufacturing and testing processes are supported by its Danish holding company, ensuring consistency with international benchmarks in product performance, safety and cost-efficiency.
The collaboration with Terrain Plant aligns with the Fibertex team’s approach to market development through skills transfer and localised technical advisory services. With increasing demand for engineered geosynthetic solutions in East Africa, particularly within road construction and public infrastructure, the distributor relationship enables improved project support and specification compliance across the region.
Both companies continue to invest in professional development and applied technical training to ensure that product solutions meet specific site and environmental requirements. This approach enhances project delivery standards while maintaining cost control and long-term material integrity.
