Saint-Gobain Africa proudly announces the launch of its futuRE Range, a meaningful step forward in sustainable construction. This innovative collection of locally produced environmentally responsible building materials is designed to help shape more resilient, future-ready cities across South Africa.

Saint Gobain Africas futuRE range a new chapter for sustainable construction in SA

As climate action becomes increasingly urgent, Saint-Gobain is committed to building better and leading with smarter, more responsible construction solutions that don’t come at an added cost.

“Developed and manufactured in Africa for Africa, the futuRE Range is a reflection of our commitment to Make it in Africa to Build Africa (MABA), with sustainability as one of our core pillars,” says Melissa Nsabimana, Marketing & Communications Director at Saint-Gobain Africa.

The current line-up of products includes:

  • RhinoBoard® 9 mm
  • RhinoBoard® 12.5 mm
  • RhinoBoard® FireStop® 12.5 mm
  • Isover Cavitylite® insulation
  • Weber Tylon WB11® tile adhesive

Each product in the range carries a third-party verified Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), providing transparency and proof of reduced environmental impact.

“Weber Tylon’s WB11 is one of the most widely used products on South African sites,” explains Sathia Govender, Product Manager for Weber. “We’ve re-engineered it with alternative sustainable raw materials and lower carbon emissions all while maintaining its performance and price. Our customers now have a sustainable alternative at no premium.”

Every material was selected not only for its technical performance but for its value to installers, architects, and end-users.

All futuRE Range products:

  • Are locally manufactured in ISO-certified facilities
  • Contribute to healthier indoor environments
  • Support health and safety on construction sites
  • Help projects meet green building certifications like EDGE and Green Star SA

Each product:

  • Has obtained a third-party verified Environmental Product Declaration (EPD)
  • Has improved carbon and energy efficiency
  • Has improved resource circularity
  • Is lightweight and easy to install

“I believe the futuRE Range is a purpose-driven way to align all our sustainability efforts,” says Anton Marais, Head of Product & Innovation for Gyproc. “It aligns with our brand promise while helping to educate the market on high-performing, responsible solutions.”

One standout is RhinoBoard® FireStop®, a fire-resistant, non-combustible board ideal for high-risk areas like storerooms and residential buildings. Used as part of the FireStop® drywall system, it can slow fire spread by up to 120 minutes, potentially saving lives.

Another highlight is Isover Cavitylite®, a locally made insulation product that’s lighter, and improves indoor comfort while reducing energy usage. It’s made with up to 80% recycled glass and helps buildings comply with the updated SANS 10400-XA energy efficiency standards.

“We don’t inherit the Earth from our parents, we borrow it from our children,” says Nishkalin Naidoo, Head of Product & Innovation for Isover. “I’m proud to be part of this initiative to protect the planet for generations to come.”

Saint-Gobain Africa has plans to expand the futuRE Range over the next few years, introducing additional sustainable solutions across categories such as finishes and insulation. By 2027, the aim is to offer a broader selection of EPD-certified, high-performance materials for a variety of building needs.

“The futuRE Range is a forward-looking initiative that supports both people and the planet,” says Estie van Zyl, Sustainability Manager at Saint-Gobain Africa. “It sets a new benchmark for responsible innovation in our home.”

At its core, the futuRE Range represents a bigger vision: to build Africa sustainably by supporting local manufacturing, reducing emissions, and enabling access to affordable sustainable solutions.
