In South Africa and globally, too few women choose to pursue science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) careers.

Trinita Mohammed, who has participated in the AGCCI, will travel to Berlin this month to share her experience.

According to the WEF women make up only 29.2% of the industry.  Looking to improve this level of participation, Siemens partnered with UN Women and launched the African Girls Can Code Initiative (AGCCI), to train young African women in Information and Communications Technology (ICT), coding and further digital literacy skills. The AGCCI is aimed at helping bridge the gap between school learning, academia and the workplace by empowering and upskilling young women for employability, through mentorship, across the African continent.

This month, September 2024, South African AGCCI mentee Trinita Mohammed, will be travelling to Berlin to attend an event hosted by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at the Bellevue Palace, to honour exceptional volunteerism and its global impact. She will have an opportunity to share how the AGCC initiative has transformed her life.

Trinita Mohammed is from Kimberley in the Northern Cape. She is currently a senior at Floors High School and wants to pursue a career in either software development or cybersecurity. She is interested in robotics and, among other things, enjoys reading books, drawing and singing.

Joining Trinita, as part of the African delegation from Siemens, will be Sabine Dall’Omo, CEO for Southern and Eastern Africa, as well as Shaleenah Marie, Project Lead for the initiative, who will be honoured for their work in driving volunteerism and mentorship for global impact.

This event presents an opportunity to showcase African talent and to celebrate the success of initiatives aimed at empowering young women across the continent and beyond.
