Vereeniging-based cable manufacturing company, M-Tec, is expanding its cable manufacturing facility – starting October 2023 through to end of 2024 – and will create several new jobs as a result.

Investing in cable manufacturing in SA

M-Tec is expanding its cable manufacturing facilities in Vereeniging.

M-Tec is one of the companies that made investment pledges at the fifth South African Investment Conference that was hosted by President Cyril Ramaphosa in Johannesburg in April this year.

Pledges made at the conference contributed to raising the total value of investment pledges over the five-year investment mobilisation programme to more than 1.5 trillion – exceeding the initial target of R1.2 trillion set by President Ramaphosa.

With its R70 million investment in expanding its manufacturing facilities, M-Tec will open 15 new job opportunities. Senior Sales Manager at the company, George Lephoto says the investment is critical for local economic development.

“The expansion will reinforce and increase our productivity levels and cable manufacturing capacity, creating new jobs and enabling us to increase profitability. These benefits will extend into the local economy.”

M-Tec manufactures cross-linked polyethylene cables, medium voltage, low voltage and aerial bundle cables, which it supplies to local municipalities, electricity distributors, the mines and the construction industry, in South Africa and internationally.

The company is ranked as one of South Africa’s biggest manufacturers and suppliers of aluminium overhead conductors, copper products, LV and MV power cables and fibre optic cables.
