Gauteng Premier visits 2Roads Group

Gauteng Premier David Makhura currently visiting black industrialist factories as part of the Province's objective of promoting localisation. On August 5.2022, he visited the 2Roads Group of Companies: Applied Welding Technology(AWT), Paltech Advanced Valve and Pump Solutions (Paltech), and Groupline Projects.

His first stop was at AWT, where he was welcomed by 2Roads Group Chairman, Kingsley Duba and Group CEO, Andre Botha. Together, they toured the facility and discussed the experiences and challenges of operating in the manufacturing and fabrications sectors with the key focus on strengthening partnerships between government and industry and promoting economic growth.

AWT is an essential services provider of specialised welding solutions for turbine valve components and remanufacturing high-value components to tight tolerances, one of a handful of companies in South Africa with this niche capability.

This visit was followed by visits to Paltech and Groupline Projects. All of these 2Roads companies are proudly South-African, with Paltech specialising in the manufacturing, repair and maintenance of industrial valves and pumps and Groupline focusing on wear lining solutions.

“Most importantly, businesses that are being built here, the Group of companies that fall under 2Roads are the type of transformative businesses we would like to work with. First, to add value to our local infrastructure in different industries such as the mining sector, but we also like to see that 2Roads is exporting,” said Makhura.

He said that products that are coming into South Africa need to be replaced with locally manufactured components as part of the Government’s policy of increasing local content. “But we also need to support, from an infrastructure build point of view, for Government infrastructure projects,” he said, adding that Government and SEOs should be buying from South African businesses.

“Manufacturing and industrialisation is about producing goods in our own economy, to support jobs, to support modernisation, bringing in new technologies and skills, but also to build a new skills profile whilst transforming the businesses,” said Premier Makhura.
