The Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) has announced that the 9th UNESCO Africa Engineering Week (AEW) and the 7th Africa Engineering Conference are scheduled to take place from 25 to 28 September 2023, at the CSIR International Convention Centre in Pretoria, South Africa.

This landmark event is set to feature some of the most important speakers and industry members in the engineering profession. Experts and thought leaders from public and private sectors will share groundbreaking ideas and best practices. Their valuable insights and expertise will drive discussions on shaping a brighter and more sustainable future for Africa through engineering excellence.
ECSA CEO, Dr Bridget Ssamula states that the UNESCO AEW and Africa Engineering Conference together aim to honour, inspire, and cultivate engineering excellence across Africa. “More than just a conference, this event serves as a platform to educate and enthuse the youth and the public about the fascinating world of engineering, emphasising its role in addressing the pressing challenges faced in the region.”
She says engineers are designing the future, and this gathering will spotlight their crucial contributions in shaping a more sustainable world.
“The event will bring together seasoned and aspiring engineers, professionals from the public and private sectors, and individuals with an inherent curiosity about engineering's wonders. Fostering innovation, collaboration, and growth, the UNESCO AEW and Africa Engineering Conference aim to encourage that curiosity and set the course for engineering excellence in Africa,” Dr Ssamula adds.
A range of specialised programmes will cater to diverse interests. These include programmes for Women in Engineering (B2B), Students and Young Professionals, and the Technical Papers Programme, all offering valuable insights, networking opportunities, and mentorship to attendees.
In the exhibition area, cutting-edge technologies, innovative projects, and engineering solutions from leading organisations, will be presented in an environment supporting exchange and collaboration.
The event will also offer extensive networking sessions, allowing attendees to forge connections with industry peers, potential employers, and collaborators.
“As we prepare to gather at the UNESCO AEW and Africa Engineering Conference, we invite all stakeholders, including governments, institutions, corporations, and individuals, to join hands in celebrating the achievements of engineering in Africa and laying the groundwork for a prosperous and sustainable future,” says Dr Ssamula.
