The National Transmission Company South Africa (NTCSA) has announced that Monde Bala, Group Executive: Eskom Distribution, will be seconded to the role of Interim Chief Executive Officer (ICEO), NTCSA, effective from 1 August 2025, succeeding Segomoco Scheppers.

Monde Bala will take up the position of ICEO at the NTCSA from 1 August 2025.

The process of recruiting and appointing a permanent chief executive officer for the NTCSA is currently under way. 

“Mr Bala is a seasoned executive with solid experience in the power sector and the NTCSA Board is looking forward to working with him and the team as we drive our strategic deliverables. His appointment to the leadership of the NTCSA will enable us to progress the execution of our strategy to attract investment in the transmission grid through the delivery of an accelerated Transmission Development Plan, advancing operational unbundling activities as required by legislation and establishing a fair, competitive market for electricity.

“On behalf of the NTCSA Board and Exco, we sincerely thank Mr Scheppers for his remarkable contribution and unwavering commitment during the transition, as well as for his counsel and leadership at the NTCSA,” said Priscillah Mabelane, NTCSA Board Chairperson.

Mr Bala has served as Group Executive: Eskom Distribution since 2019 and has held various senior leadership roles in his 27 years at Eskom. He holds a BSc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Cape Town and a Master of Engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand.

As Mr Bala moves to take up his position at the NTCSA Eskom has announced that Agnes Mlambo will become acting Group Executive: Distribution, effective 1 August 2025. Ms Mlambo brings over 17 years’ experience in Eskom to the role.

Ms Mlambo’s appointment, with her many years of experience in Eskom, will significantly benefit the distribution business.”

Ms Mlambo holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and a professional qualification as a Chartered Management Accountant. She joined the group in 2008.
