At the South African Investment Conference 2026, held 31 March 2026 in Sandton, renewable energy developer and independent power producer Mulilo announced a bold commitment of nearly R15 billion in renewable energy development, signalling a decisive vote of confidence in South Africa’s economic trajectory and energy future.
This investment will fund the immediate development of three large-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) projects and a battery energy storage system (BESS), to deliver 716 MW in new capacity to supply the grid, directly supporting South Africa’s growing need for reliable, dispatchable power.
Mulilo’s commitment underscores the central role of private capital in unlocking South Africa’s energy transition – and doing so at speed and scale.
Beyond this R15 billion commitment, Mulilo is progressing a substantial pipeline of projects towards a goal of adding one gigawatt per year, positioning the business to deploy significantly more capital in the near term and further accelerate the build-out of renewable energy infrastructure.
