Siemens’ 2017 wall calendar highlights digitalization in a nutshell. True, written on the calendar page for January are the words, ‘Digitalization realizing greater efficiencies by merging the real and virtual worlds’; but download the associated app and it is obvious that the wall calendar does exactly that – merge the real and virtual worlds.
Digitalization is a term used frequently in technical circles and we know our physical world is merging with the virtual world and being covered with a digital layer. This will influence more and more how we interact with our world to make our lives easier.
The Siemens 2017 wall calendar is a good example of this. After downloading and opening the app, simply hold the smartphone in a landscape position and point the camera at the calendar. A whole 3D digital experience opens before your eyes with a virtual world inside the calendar waiting to be explored - it is like stepping inside the picture of the calendar. However, true digitalization requires that the physical wall calendar become more efficient at its task and so every month Siemens will introduce fresh content, making the calendar, in effect, a communication portal for new products, ongoing projects and events.
