Studio RHE’s design for Third Space Moorgate has earned the 2024 FRAME Awards Winner of the Year in the Spatial Category, thanks in part to its groundbreaking use of lighting to elevate the fitness experience.
The luxury gym combines cutting-edge design with high-energy illumination, creating an environment that is both functional and inspiring.
Lighting as a central design element
Lighting plays a transformative role throughout Third Space Moorgate, enhancing its futuristic aesthetic and guiding members seamlessly through the facility.
A bespoke lighting system has been fully customised to adapt to the needs of each space, allowing for mood and intensity adjustments that suit different workout zones. Whether it’s the calming glow in yoga and pilates studios or the energising brightness in cardio and strength areas, lighting ensures each space feels tailored to its purpose.
The centrepiece of the lighting design is a striking bespoke chandelier that spans the three-storey staircase. Comprising 360 LED light tubes, the chandelier is designed to mimic the flow of a cascading waterfall, creating a dramatic focal point and visually connecting the gym’s levels.
Innovative spaces with purposeful illumination
Originally a ground-level and basement car park, the gym’s transformation reflects Studio RHE’s commitment to sustainability and innovation.
A former car ramp has been reimagined as a dynamic running track, illuminated with high-energy lighting to energise members.
At the centre of the spiral ramp is a combat ring, dramatically lit to enhance the industrial aesthetic of exposed concrete, MMA matting, and cage doors.
Other standout features include the Natural Fitness Food bar and members’ lounge, where lighting adds warmth and vibrancy to the reception area.
Luxury changing rooms are equally impressive, with carefully selected lighting complementing rainfall showers, grooming stations, and salt-infused steam rooms to create a spa-like ambiance.
