Multinational mining and metals processing group, Sibanye-Stillwater, has reported that its South African (SA) PGM and gold operations have been recognised for safety excellence and received 14 industry health and safety awards at the Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM) MineSafe 2025 Industry Awards Day held on 21 November 2025.

Sibanye Stillwaters South African operations recognised for safety performance at industry awards

The SAIMM MineSafe Conference and Industry Awards Day brings together all mining industry to share knowledge and reinforce their commitment to a safer mining industry.

Sibanye-Stillwater received the awards below:

a. Year-on-year best improved safety performance in gold operations

  • 1st place: Beatrix operation

b. Year-on-year best improved safety performance in platinum operations

  • 1st place: Rustenburg operation Khuseleka shaft
  • 4th place: Rustenburg operation Thembelani shaft

c. Year-on-year best improved safety performance in processing operations

  • 1st place: Marikana smelter and Base Metal Refinery (BMR) operation
  • 2nd place: Rustenburg operation SRPM underground plant
  • 3rd place: Marikana underground plant

d. Best safety performance in gold operations

  • 1st place: Kloof Manyano shaft

e. Best safety performance in platinum operations

  • 1st place: Marikana Saffy and E3 shafts
  • 2nd place: Marikana Saffy shaft
  • 3rd place: Marikana K3 Merensky shaft

f. Best safety performance in processing operations

  • 1st place: UG2 and Retrofit plants
  • 2nd place: Rustenburg operation SRPM underground plants
  • 3rd place: Western Limb tailings retreatment (WLTR) and PMC operations

g. Leading Practice adoption award

  • Sibanye-Stillwater SA gold operations for best fall of ground (FOG) leading practice adoption

Sibanye-Stillwater CEO, Richard Stewart, commented, “Safe production remains our top priority, and we are encouraged by the continuous progress made across our operations and the recognition received. We acknowledge the dedication of all teams at our SA operations and as a group remain committed to eliminating fatalities as we continue our journey towards zero harm.”
