IMPOWER celebrated its tenth anniversary at a gala dinner in Cape Town on 3 August. Since its inception in 2014, IMPOWER has been at the forefront of the solar and battery storage revolution, consistently delivering innovative solutions and driving South Africa's transition to renewable energy.

IMPOWER celebrates a decade of success

Driven by a passion for electrifying South Africa, IMPOWER has made significant strides over the past decade. The company has played a crucial role in the nation's progress towards a just energy transition and the reduction of load shedding.

"Our mission is to end the suffering caused by energy shortages in South Africa," says CEO Jay Naidoo. "We aim to provide clean, renewable energy to address the massive energy crisis sustainably."

IMPOWER's journey from humble beginnings to becoming a powerhouse in the solar industry is marked by numerous milestones. The company is known for its commitment to sustainability, innovation, and customer satisfaction. It boasts an extensive portfolio of approximately 150 tailored solar and battery solutions, mainly for the commercial and industrial sectors. These installations power mines, farms, shopping centres, business parks, schools, and health facilities.

Key achievements over the past ten years include:

  • Installation of 150,000 solar panels covering 300,000 square meters
  • Laying 2,000 km of cables
  • Creating jobs for 40 people
  • Working on 1,400 sites across the country
  • Constructing 40MW of solar PV plants and 20MW/h of battery storage
  • Injecting R300 million into the local economy
  • Providing backup power for 30 educational institutions, benefiting 20,000 learners
  • Supporting wine farms, resulting in the production of 300,000 cases of wine

One of IMPOWER's flagship projects is the PV installation at Sandton City Mall, adjacent to the JSE in Sandton. More recently, the company launched the Coral Beach Estate PV solar and battery hybrid system, the first of its kind in South Africa, powering 180 homes.

Looking ahead, IMPOWER anticipates increased activity in South Africa’s solar energy space, with a focus on integrating battery energy storage systems (BESS) into future projects.

For a decade, IMPOWER has demonstrated a commitment to bringing sustainable energy solutions to South Africa and beyond. "We’re in it for the long haul, and we’re in it together. Our mission is clear: to make sustainable power accessible across the continent," Naidoo concludes.
