Swiss-based lighting manufacturer, designer and distributor NEKO has brought its Think Design philosophy and lights to South Africa following its launch event in Cape Town last month. The event was attended by NEKO founder, owner and CEO Sven Speissegger, who has a proven track record as a lighting specialist.
“I love lighting. It is a passion of mine. I do not like the term ‘specialist’. I prefer ‘lover of lights’. It is a better term as it shows care for the industry, my products and what we are doing with NEKO,” says Speissegger. “I believe in Think Design. You think about what you are doing, what you want and how to achieve that. Then you go about designing it. With illumination, you can do many things if you put your mind to it.”
NEKO follows the principle of “European thinking in union with Asian efficiency”, which Speissegger explains as “creativity and grandeur combined with accuracy”. “Our LED lights, for example, have been sustainably manufactured since I started the company in 2013. We have offices around the world and our production factory and coating plant are both in China. Since moving production to China, we have seen business grow to the point where we have needed to increase our premises to keep up with orders. This is an indicator that we are doing something right.”
The products unveiled include the brand’s Skyjack downlights, which are recessed luminaires with a height of just 4.6cm. They are available in 2700 and 3000K and there are various models in the series, like the Skyjack D, which has a slightly recessed optic at UGR>19 to provide optimal glare control. There is also the Koi chip-on-board LEDs that feature indirect up-and-down lighting that is perfect for staircases and corridors as it accentuates and illuminates walls in a beautiful glow of light.
