Lighting manufacturer BEKA Schréder has supplied the LED lighting solution to the newly constructed Refinery Interchange in Cape Town, Western Cape province. “The Refinery Interchange is located at the juncture of Trunk Road and Plattekloof Road, and the main objective of this upgrade was to improve the capacity and safety of traffic operations at the Refinery Interchange,” says Grant Kemp, a sales engineer at BEKA Schréder.

This project grew in size and involved the demolishing of an existing interchange bridge that had a substandard vertical clearance and replacing it with two new bridges over the N7. “Plattekloof Road has been upgraded to a dual-carriageway system. Four interchange ramps have been widened, and the two interchange terminals have been upgraded,” explains Kemp, adding, “BEKA Schréder has supplied the South-African designed and manufactured LED streetlights.”

Streetlight solution

BEKA Schréder’s LEDLUME-MIDI and LEDLUME-MAXI streetlights have been installed around the interchange. Kemp says that these luminaires have been designed and manufactured in South Africa, taking the continent’s harsh environmental conditions into account, ensuring maximum product lifetime.

“The LEDLUME range offers optimised photometrical performance with a minimum total cost of ownership. It has provided the customer with the ideal tool to generate energy savings, improve lighting levels and reduce maintenance costs.”

The great variety of high-performance optics optimises the photometric distribution for this specific application to achieve minimum energy consumption and unsurpassed light uniformity.

The LEDLUME range offers flexible combinations of LED modules, a choice of currents and dimming options to further maximise energy savings and provide the most cost-effective solution.
