The 87 500 m² Baywest Mall is part
of the first phase of development of
the greater 320 hectares Baywest City
precinct. One of the other developments
within the Eastern Cape which dhk architects
are spear-heading is the Drostdy Hotel in
Graaff-Reinet.
dhk group, chairman, Derick Henstra,
gave an overview of the group’s vision for the
Eastern Cape, “We believe the Eastern Cape
shows good promise for future growth. The
investments beingmade in new developments
such as Baywest, the urban renewal of parts of
Port Elizabeth as well as infrastructural projects
such as Coega bodes well for the future”, said
Henstra. “Forming partnerships with local
developers and planners has been a blue-
print that has worked well for us and we look
forward to making a contribution to the social
and economic development of the region.”

environmental policy dhk has a growing track
record for delivering contemporary ‘green’
buildings that will contribute to the region’s
social and economic sustainability. Recently
dhk achieved the first 5 star design rating for
a tall building in SA and Africa with its Portside
building in the Cape Town city centre.
OFFICES IN PORT ELIZABETH
dhk architects recently launched its new offices in Port Elizabeth.
The firm is working on a number of projects within the Nelson
Mandela Bay including the much anticipated R1,7-billion Baywest
Mall and Baywest City development located along the N2 freeway,
a joint venture between two of South Africa’s biggest developers,
Abacus Asset Management and Billion Group.
