Lighting in Design - page 26

‘T
he Pour’ is a light sculpture that Design
Haus Liberty was commissioned to design
in Tribeca, New York City. DH Liberty was
asked to create light installations on the third floor of
a refurbished 1820s cast-iron, developer project.The
existing site features exposed industrial columns on
either end of a dropped beamwithin the living room.
The design brief was to produce a light sculpture
that would hang off the existing beam and create
an architectural relationship with the space, taking
advantage of the high ceiling space and the industrial
nature of the original features within the building.
DH Liberty designers Lisa Hinderdael and Dara
Huang began the design process by exploring the
concept of rain and how each water droplet magni-
fies light in unique ways, similar to the character of
rain falling and creating varying ripple sizes on the
surface of puddles.
