detect movement within a 10 m radius, and once
movement is detected it immediately illuminates to
100 percent light output. After a five minute period
of no movement, it dims back down to 50 percent
of its light output.
Façade and wall lighting
The north and south facing façades of the Hotel
Verde are illuminated by Eurolux’s 22 W LED Wall
Washers, from Jingri. These are mounted at a
height of 17 m and, at night, effectively set the
hotel apart from the other buildings in the area by
washing the façades with natural white light. In
addition, LED strip lighting in the hotel’s green and
purple corporate colours on the north facing façade,
allows guests arriving from the airport to identify
their destination quickly and easily.
A striking mosaic mural on the elevator shaft is
shown to full effect by three Eurolux FS122 80 W
LED flood lights, each mounted on an outreach arm.
They are precisely aimed to wash the mural with
light, evenly from top to bottom. Finally, Blair Ham-
mond & Associates specified wall mounted lights
to be installed outside all the exterior doorways of
the hotel to provide ambient and security lighting.
Parking garage
The parking garage is illuminated by 2 x 28 W T5
fluorescent vapourproof fittings. Duett five year
warranty wall lights light the ramp down to the
garage. They produce no glare so are ideal for
oncoming drivers.
David Pollock, Hotel Verde Project Manager,
commended the efforts of Blair Hammond & As-
sociates and Eurolux, “The beautiful lighting design
and installation demonstrate how important it was
for Hotel Verde to team up with specialist lighting
companies. Every box was ticked and the goals set
out in the lighting design brief were successfully
achieved. The end result is magnificent and one of
which we are extremely proud.”
By investing in green technologies that will
stand the test of time, Hotel Verde is showcasing
sustainability in action. It was wonderful to be part
of a project of this magnitude in South Africa and
we hope other enterprises follow suit.
