BEARINGS International, incorporating
Bauer Geared Motors, and part of the
Hudaco Group, recently delivered four
large Bauer electric motors to Rusten-
burg and Klerksdorp branches in the
NorthWest Province.
The Rustenburg branch order called
for two 355 kW, eight-pole, 525 V and
Four ‘super-size’ electric motors delivered
50 Hz squirrel cage inductionmotors
and one 800 kW, eight-pole, 525 V, and
50 Hz squirrel cage inductionmotors.
All three motors were manufactured
as TEFC (IP55) B3 (foot-mounted) Class
‘F’insulation with‘B’temperature rise.
Rustenburg branchmanager, Deon van
Niekerk, says these motors will be fitted
to ball mill applications.
The fourthmotor, delivered
to Klerksdorp earlier this year is
an 800 kW, four-pole,
6 600V, 50 Hz, manufactured
IT is often necessary for production depart-
ments to establish the extent of real work
performed during a shift or period of time.
The fact that a particular motor was
running during a certain period does not
necessarily mean that work was being done.
In this situation the NewCode motor protec-
tion and control relay provides the produc-
tionmanager with a clear picture of how a
machine was loaded during a specific time.
The productionmanager simply utilises
the free NewElec software to read the‘
statistic’page of the NewCode relay that will
provide himwith the necessary information
such as: % time the motor ran on load;
% time the motor ran un-loaded; and
% time the motor stood idle. These statistics
can provide overall situation awareness with
regards to production time utilisation and
can go a long way in identifying sources of
difficulty.

“We were pleased with how quickly
we were able to honour the delivery
to our Rustenburg branch,”says Lewis

manager for Electric Motors and Bauer
Electric Motors.“The order was placed
on 26 September last year and we
delivered the three electric motors on

TIA Online has introduced a
new, hand-held, digital vibration
test meter, the TAMAT VIB1400
that allows operators to detect
anomalies in the bearings as
well as balancing and
inadequate alignment, before
they become significant
problems.
The TAMAT VIB-1400 is
portable and allows for an
organised predictive main-
tenance programbased
on programmed vibration
monitoring. Acceleration,
velocity and displacement
are indicated on a LCD display for high visibility. It
has an accelerometer with a magnetic base that
guarantees stable and repeatable measurements.
Results are stored in an internal memory with up
to 500 measurements which can be downloaded
later to a PC, allowing for trend analysis develop-
ment.
Features include a frequency range of 10 Hz to
1 kHz; vibration testing for ISO 2954; RS232 data
output; and RMS peak value.
