THE street lighting along the road that leads to
Sun International’s prestigious Sun City Resort
is in the process being upgraded and BEKA
Schréder has supplied quality LED lighting
solutions for this project.
The renowned Sun City Resort, which bor-
ders the Pilanesberg Nature Reserve, consists
of four hotels and a casino. Due to the large
size of the resort, energy saving solutions were
a priority and, as energy efficient lighting can
make a huge difference, one of the first steps
was to review and upgrade the resort’s street
lighting.
“The luminaire chosen for this upgrade was
the BEKA CITEA LED 36 LED 60W and already
about 100 LED luminaires have been installed,”
says BEKA Schréder’s David Fitzpatrick.
He says that Sun City required a new solution
to replace the conventional HID street lighting
and LED technology was chosen because of its
obvious benefits: lowmaintenance, low energy
consumption and high performance.“The
BEKA CITEA LED luminaire was also chosen
because of its aesthetic appearance,”adds
Fitzpatrick.
“The BEKA CITEA LED is manufactured in
South Africa and has been designed for local
environmental conditions. The luminaires are
able to operate in an ambient temperature of
up to 35 °C without reducing the lifetime of 60
000 hours with a lumen depreciation of not
more than 20% (L80),”he says.
“Prior to the CITEA LED installation, BEKA
Schréder had supplied the LED street lighting
from the main entrance up to the Cabanas
Hotel as well as along the road from the sup-
pliers’and staff entrances up to the circle at the
main entrance.
“Here we used the BEKA LEDlume-midi 36
LED/60W and, so far 75 BEKA LEDlume-midi
luminaires have been supplied andmore will
be required as the work progresses,”explains
Fitzpatrick, adding that the BEKA LEDlume-
midi’s“superior performance”convinced the
client to use the BEKA CITEA LED luminaire to
achieve the desired energy savings.
