In its quest to boost its welding technology portfolio, ESAB Welding & Cutting Products completed several acquisitions in the past years, including TBi Industries (2017) and Sandvik Welding (February 2018).

ESAB’s acquisition of Sandvik welding operations includes the consumable production units in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and Sandviken, Sweden, as well as the technical sales and product management teams. Also included in the deal is a multi-year strategic collaboration on R&D for future product developments.

ESAB Sandvik Consumables“Adding the Sandvik welding operations and its associated specialisms provides ESAB the opportunity to better serve customers with a broader and enhanced portfolio of stainless steel and nickel filler metals,” says Shyam Kambeyanda, president of ESAB.

ESAB will be working over the next several months to integrate the Sandvik welding consumables business and operations to provide a smooth transition for customers worldwide.

Sandvik is a world-class developer and manufacturer of stainless steels and special alloys for demanding environments and has been one of the leading global suppliers of welding consumables for more than 80 years. While ESAB is also a world leader in welding filler metals, with a portfolio including stainless steel, nickel and high-alloy filler metals, strip cladding electrodes and fluxes sold under respected brands such as Shield- Bright, Core-Bright, Arcaloy, OK Autrod, OK, OK Band and Stoody.

With the addition of the Sandvik welding products portfolio, ESAB can now offer an unmatched ability to meet customer needs for special welding consumables.

TBi Industries

TBi is a leading provider of high-quality industrial welding torches. The advanced ESAB automation offerings will be complemented by TBi’s robotic torches and peripherals with their industry-leading performance. The TBi torch technology will support ESAB in providing highly customer-oriented solutions to the global welding market.

A German provider of high-quality welding equipment, TBi specialises in the development and production of MIG/MAG and TIG torches. A special new focus is on torch technology and cleaning stations for robotic welding.

Founded by Alexander Binzel, who was active in the industry for many decades, his sons Felix and Oliver Binzel are currently leading the ongoing growth of the company. The TBi group is active worldwide and comprises production facilities in Germany, Czech Republic and China.

TBi aims to develop technically outstanding products and to become a technological leader in the welding torch business. To this effect, TBi maintains a highly specialised production infrastructure and invests considerably in the development of innovative and improved products.

Faithful to its motto ’Ready for Tomorrow.’ TBi is involved right from the beginning in the development of the adequate welding tool for a new process or application. This focus on future technologies, the concentration on practical advantages for the end user and an excellent performance in pre- and after-sales services define the company’s philosophy.

An open-minded corporate culture allows TBi to quickly react to changes and understand the requirements of its customers. Quality and service always come first and, therefore, its products have an excellent standing with customers worldwide.

TBi will be operating as a business unit within ESAB and the current team continues to support its customers under the brand name TBi.

“The addition of these companies strengthens our worldwide strategic focus on automated welding and welding technology, continuing to make us a partner of choice for distributors, integrators and end-users,” concludes Kambeyanda.

A compressive range of Sandvik welding products, including: solid welding wire and rods; flux-cored wire; stick electrodes; strip electrode; flux; thermal spray wire; and welding finishing chemicals, along with TBi’s MIG/MAG and TIG torches for industrial and robotic welding, are now available through ESAB South Africa.
