Spazio Lighting has recently discovered an increasing need in the South African market for high quality emergency backup lighting for commercial and retail applications. South Africans are faced with the challenges that go with load shedding and unrelated power outages on a regular basis. Power outages can result in productivity and profitability being impacted if you are dependent on electricity to operate your business. When there is no natural light entering a building, it can lead to safety and security risks and can also result in a business not being able to operate due to poor visibility.

Companies have been purchasing generators to provide electricity in times of power outages and ensures that vital electrical equipment is able to function, this include computers, machinery, etc. Unfortunately, in most cases, the generators are not able to supply enough power to keep the lights on as well.

Spazio Lighting emergency backup lighting

It has become necessary for developers in the commercial, industrial and retail sectors to look at other ways of keeping the lights on during times of limited or no power supply.

Spazio Lighting now offers a range of emergency backup LED light fittings that provides the perfect solution to this problem. The emergency backup fittings will burn at 70% of full capacity for a period of three hours when power supply to the fitting has been switched off. The fittings come complete with a rechargeable battery that charges while the power supply is connected. The integrated backup battery will take 24 hours to fully recharge.

Spazio Lighting has introduced the ‘Only CTC’ (colour temperature changing) emergency backup bulkhead as well as recessed and surface mounted downlights that can be used in any commercial or domestic application.

Power outages, whether caused by grid failure or other factors such as natural disasters, will result in people possibly being forced to navigate out of a completely dark area and find their way to safety. They can even lead to evacuation procedures being put in place. In situations like these, people will rely on illuminated Emergency Exit signs strategically placed in a building.

Spazio Lighting offers wall and ceiling mounted LED exit signs with a three hour emergency backup. Three new models with four custom pictogram designs have recently been added to the range.
