Swedish furniture giant IKEA has entered the lighting market with the introduction of its Ormanäs strip light, that will be available in South Africa from 2024. “The Ormanäs comes in 4m lengths and are fully customisable,” reports Dutch tech gurus Tweakers.net, adding that “IKEA, who is the world’s largest furniture manufacturer, is focussing on its technology sector for the near future. “These lights work with the company’s Dirigera smart hub – there is no mess, no fuss: You plug them in, configure the settings and they light up”.
One less appealing factor of the new fitting is that the LEDs on the strip are not individually addressable, so the entire light will only display one colour at a time. “This is in line with IKEA’s philosophy of keeping things simple,” says Tweakers. “It is a simple design that can be cut to length at designated places, and it will work with home personal assistant devises such as Google Home and Amazon Alexa.”
