South African electrical accessories manufacturer Crabtree has successfully transitioned to new ownership under Dimako Holdings, marking a significant milestone in the company's long-standing presence in the Southern African market.

On 1st April 2025, Siemens South Africa concluded the sale of Crabtree South Africa (PTY) Ltd and its subsidiary Crabtree (PTY) Ltd (Lesotho) to Dimako Holdings (PTY) Ltd, which operates under the KDI Holdings umbrella. KDI Holdings, led by the well-regarded Dlamini family, is a well-known South African-based industrial investor dedicated to fostering local economic development.

BEKA Schréder, a leading manufacturer of outdoor LED lighting solutions in Africa, officially opened its new head office and factory at Twenty One Industrial Estate in Olifantsfontein on 5 September. This modern space reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, innovation, and collaboration as it continues to lead the industry in providing smart and energy-efficient lighting solutions, positioning BEKA Schréder for continued growth across Africa.

The new premises bring all business units closer together, enhancing teamwork, engagement, and operational excellence. With optimised material flow and a redesigned pole factory assembly process, the company is set to reduce lead times while further improving product quality.

Aberdare Cables, through its research and development initiatives, has developed an innovative solution that improves the mechanical performance of the XLPE cables to allow for their use in the coastal areas and wetlands in South Africa. This has been successful through engagements of the users of the PILCs to understand their justification for the reluctance to move to the MV XLPE cables, which have already proved to have better electrical performance in terms of current rating for the same cable size.

This new innovative solution of MV XLPE cables, now produced locally by Aberdare Cables at its Stanford Road factory in Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth), consists of a radial water blocking feature making use of aluminium laminate technology, addressing the drawbacks to change from PILC to more environmentally friendly MV XLPE cables and allowing for improved life in MV XLPE cables. This product is available throughout Africa and globally as well.
