Products and services
US-based Mark-10 Corporation, an
innovative designer and manufac-
turer of force and torque measure-
ment instrumentation for the medical,
pharmaceutical, automotive, textile,
consumer products, aerospace, food
and beverage, and other industries, has
announced its series TT02 torque tool
testers for the accurate and reliable veri-
fication of applied torque values derived
from torque screwdrivers, wrenches,
and other small hand tools used on the
factory floor and in other production
environments.
Having an understanding of a tool’s
applied torque is important for ensuring
product quality, safety and reliability.
While fasteners can be inexpensive, an
improperly tightened fastener can cause
a host of operational problems, ranging
from the minor to catastrophic failure.
Attaching fasteners with appropriate
amounts of torque prevents them from
vibrating loose, if too loose, or stripping,
if over tightened. Torque tools can also
go out of calibration, particularly from
ongoing daily use. By instituting a
regular torque fastener tool performance
verification programme, manufacturers
can better ensure product quality and
performance.

The food and beverage
processing and packag-
ing industries require
doors that are not only
rapidly opened and
closed, but also adhere
to strict hygiene stan-
dards. The Ditec Alimax
rapid roll up doors,
which are distributed
in southern Africa by
Apex Strip Curtains &
Doors, are designed
to meet the requisite
cleanliness regulations of the industry.
Prerequisites for doors in the food
and beverage sector include ease of
cleaning and disinfecting. “In addition,
feedback indicates that these doors
should not be affected by either hu-
midity or detergents, and they should
prevent the collection of dust,” says
Wim Dessing, managing director of
Apex Strip Curtains & Doors.
Maximised uptime and ease of
pedestrian and vehicular traffic flow
remain important requirements for any
access point. With an opening speed of
1,5 m/s and closing speed of 0,8 m/s,
the Alimax doors reduce the ingress
of external air, noise, dust and other

McCloskey range
Canada-based McCloskey is known for its reli-
able, durable and high performing products, and
HPE Africa’s McCloskey sales and marketing
manager, Alan Straw, notes that the company’s
range of equipment has been well received in
the African market.
“HPE Africa has hosted a number of
McCloskey open days, where we conducted
equipment demonstrations, including the
McCloskey C38R recirculating cone crusher.
The C38R comes with several high-spec
features, which include; an anti-spin system,
load and material level monitoring, as well as
a fully hydraulic push button and relief system.
At the last McCloskey open day of 2013, we
received overwhelmingly positive feedback on
the C38R.”
“We have had several more enquiries into the
McCloskey range of equipment from existing and
potential customers, as the market increasingly
requires machinery that is durable and reliable,
while remaining affordable,” he concludes.
High Power Equipment (HPE) Africa is the
sole southern African distributor of McCloskey
crushing, screening and recycling equipment.
Roll up doors meet hygiene requirements
contaminants, while simultaneously
increasing productivity of employees
due to their seamless opening and clos-
ing response.
“In spite of their ability to rapidly
open and close, the design of the doors
is centred on employee safety and the
protection of products. By utilising
IP67 safety photocells in the vertical
frames, the Alimax doors ensure that
no person or vehicle will be accidentally
trapped under a closing door,” Dessing
points out.
The design of the Alimax doors is
based on research into the food indus-
try’s specific requirements. “Primarily,
the market drivers are a compact foot-
print, ease of installation and flexibility
of materials. The Alimax door’s motor
is built into the roll up shaft of the
curtain and the load bearing structure
is extremely small, to allow the door to
effortlessly fit into even the most con-
gested areas,” Dessing explains.
“A number of factors contribute to

sectors.
the ease with which the system can
be installed. These include the use of
a pre-assembled tubular motor, a pro-
grammable control panel with absolute
encoder position control for setting
of the open-close position, a wireless
safety edge that allows signal transmis-
sion without cabling, and high level
pre-assembly of the integrated safety
photocells,” he continues.
The flexible self-repairing curtain
is manufactured from wind resistant,
yet flexible, polyester material that is
impervious to tearing. In addition, the
supporting structure is made from a
reinforced composite material that is
waterproof and corrosion resistant. The
sleek profile of the Alimax door, with
the absence of recesses, eliminates the
collection of dust and debris for a higher
level of cleanliness.
“Ditec Alimax rapid roll up doors are
also ideally suited to use in warehouses,
supermarkets and car wash facilities,”
Dessing concludes.
torque tool testers assist in these efforts
by capturing peak torque values in both
measurement directions at a sampling
rate of 7 000 Hz with ±0,3% full scale
accuracy. The testers also calculate first
and second peaks for the measurement
verification of click-type tools. Their
universal 3/8-inch square receptacle
accepts common bits and attachments.
The TT02 also includes a range of
productivity-enhancing features, includ-
ing USB, RS-232, Mitutoyo, and ana-
logue outputs; automatic data output/
zeroing/data storage upon tool slip or
click; memory storage for up to 1 000
readings; and pass/fail indicators and
outputs.
