The interface kit increases choice and flexibility for Volvo customers by facilitating the integration of level 9 proximity detection systems (PDS) from any third-party supplier into the brand’s articulated haulers and wheel loaders.

Volvo CE launches PDS interface kit

Following rigorous development, testing and verification, Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) has introduced an interface kit enabling any third-party PDS supplier to integrate a level 9 system with G- and H-Series Volvo articulated haulers and wheel loaders.

“We are thrilled to introduce this cutting-edge interface kit, offering our customers greater flexibility in choosing their preferred PDS solution. With this innovation, Volvo CE reaffirms its commitment to driving advancements in safety technology while prioritising customer needs and satisfaction,” says Anteneh Gebremeskel, GPE product manager at Volvo CE.

Level 9 PDS solutions help prevent potential collisions by detecting people and objects in the vicinity and automatically slowing down the machine or bringing it to a complete stop if there is no intervention from the operator to avoid them.

It is important to emphasise, however, that a level 9 PDS serves as a supplementary safety measure and should never replace the operator’s primary responsibility of maintaining focus, awareness, and necessary steering and braking to ensure complete control of the machine in any given situation.  Operators should never solely rely on the PDS to operate or stop the vehicle.

Volvo customers requiring a PDS can simply contact their preferred supplier who will coordinate installation with the local Volvo dealer.
